Role and Responsibilities:
The Store Manager is responsible for leading all aspects of store operations, including employee management, customer service, merchandising, and financial oversight. This leadership role plays a key part in maintaining operational excellence and delivering Dollar General’s mission of Serving Others.
- Recruit, select, train, and retain qualified employees in compliance with federal/state labor laws and company policies.
- Conduct performance evaluations, offer counseling, and make advancement and pay recommendations.
- Communicate performance expectations, conduct safety meetings, and enforce security practices.
- Ensure proper staffing and personally open and close the store at least twice per week.
- Analyze operating statements to identify sales trends, profitability, expense control, and shrink.
- Manage inventory and ordering to meet in-stock goals and seasonal strategies.
- Facilitate accurate and efficient stocking, staging, and storage of merchandise.
- Ensure merchandise is presented according to company guidelines including fixtures, pricing, and signage.
- Oversee inventory accuracy, damage control, markdowns, and related documentation.
- Manage cashier accountability, key control, and cash handling procedures to protect assets.
- Lead store-level customer service and maintain a clean, organized, and safe environment.
- Ensure all tools and resources are available for task completion.
- Enforce full compliance with company policies, procedures, and required documentation.
Required Skills and Experience:
- Ability to read diagrams, safety rules, instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Proficient in basic math, including percentages and cash handling procedures.
- Experience with IBM POS systems and report generation.
- Strong inventory and merchandising knowledge.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Experienced in interviewing, hiring, counseling, and termination within legal and policy frameworks.
- Knowledge of facility, cash, and safety controls including the SAFE program.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Bilingual Spanish skills may be preferred in certain markets.
Preferred Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent strongly preferred.
- Minimum of one year of retail management experience preferred.

- Frequent walking, standing, bending, stooping, kneeling, and occasional ladder use.
- Handling merchandise and equipment including box cutters, dollies, and carts.
- Frequent lifting up to 40 pounds and occasional lifting up to 55 pounds.
- Occasional driving for bank deposits and meetings.
- Fast-paced retail environment with moderate noise and occasional outdoor exposure.
